Friday.

Again.

Thankfully.

Dunno why, but every week since I returned to work in Jan has been a loong one. I will really be appreciating that beer tonight.

Change of venue this evening, The Nursery tavern, on Lord St. (Earlsdon). If you can read this, then your company would be appreciated.

On another not entirely dissimilar note, I am considering next weekend (Saturday 12th) doing an 'Ed's walk to the Beer Engine' bar crawl.

For a while now, I've been thinking as I've walked across Cov, that I've been past an awful lot of pubs. Quite a few of these, I've never even been in.

So, given that it's just across from me, start will be at the Nursery, at opening time (which is either 10 or 11, I'm not entirely sure, but I'll check tonight). Probably for beer and breakfast.

from there, it'll be along Allesley Old Road, to the Four Provinces, following that road along stopping at each drinking establishment we encounter.

I tend to go past the odeon, so am undecided as to whether stopping at the string of bars in the Skydome is a good idea or not ;p. From there, up through city centre, (and no, marks and spencers does NOT count as a bar, even if they do sell booze), up the street of a thousand banks, and down gosford st. towards the beer engine.

Now counting fingers, there are rather a lot of pubs along this route. So some may be skipped by consensus. (If one stops at two or three at the skydome, then 15, and that's not counting any 'just off' the way, like the aardvark, golden cross or courtyard).

Of course if no one's up for it, I'll grab breakfast and a pint, and then toodle back and play Rome Total war all day ;p

So, anyone interested?

Well, that's made my day.

One of my work mates is installing Checkpoint firewall on a Sparc machine.
Unfortunately, it doesn't run if you're using the 64 bit kernel.

As resident Solaris guru, he came to see me to ask how to do this rather strange thing.
It rang a few memory bells, and so I responsded "I'm sure I've done it, give me a minute and I'll figure out how.".

Quick tappy tappy into google, and I the first post I find is on Sun Managers, explaining how to do this very thing, for this very purpose. (Changing the solaris kernel to 32bit mode, to install checkpoint firewall).

Written by me in 2002.

My work mate looked at me strangely when I collapsed in hysterics.

Bad things

Some things really make me angry.

As you may know, I help run a Live Action Roleplay game, alongside [livejournal.com profile] iamnotramphus.

We've recently had a situation where someone has faked an email from him. Basically he uses yahoo, this email came fromt the same name, at hotmail. To the point of copying the signature on the bottom.

And of course, it was a very inflammatory message "We the ref team, are going to take away all your stuff" sort of thing.

I'm absolutely furious about this. I mean, it's -got- to be someone that has been emailed by the ref team, and knows the game. So basically, someone I know.

We're going to be getting in touch with hotmail about it. And intend to get hold of a copy of the email in question, and dissect it in detail. And whoever it is, had better wish I never find out who they are. Taking the piss is one thing. Maliciously impersonating a ref, to 'get at' someone in a roleplay game is just so far out of order that I'm almost at a loss for words.

I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing about it mind, but I figure I'll start with a public posting 'name and shame' on one or two of the larger 'community forums'.
