Last night's Amber was fun.
One of those marvelous games where despite a sense of impending doom, I still couldn't stop laughing at the whole situation of Tremayne finding out that actually, he'd been courting someone from the Courts of Chaos (without knowing about it) and therefore being challenged to a duel by her betrothed. (also from Chaos).

In the 'main plaza'. Watched by a thousand or so high ranking chaos nobles.
Because he's famous for killing Xerxes (a high ranking person, and consort to Dara, who's sort of right near the top in the political ranks).
They're also interested in seeing a Prince of Amber fight, especially if he's going to be doing so without his 'toys'. After all, the peace between Amber and Chaos won't last forever, and he'll be on the 'other' side.

Can't refuse the duel, because that'd be an insult. (Good enough to flirt with, not worth fighting over).

Can't afford to win the duel, because then he'd have 'won' the hand of Lady Marekha. In itself, inconvenient. The fact that Marekha and Mordana (Betrothed to Prince Xavier) are lining up for a fight over titles to land that they both have claim to takes it from inconvienent to 'bloody hindering awkward'.

Can't afford to lose the duel, because he's a Prince of Amber, and it'd be really bad press for the Courts of Amber, which would upset the current regent.

Can't really kill off any of the participants, because ... well that'd just stink of foul play.

The thing is, that Tremayne suspects that Ramius engineered the situation, due to him warning him about Marekha's plans. Obscurely of course, but ... well it'd be unwise to be indiscrete.

And OC, there's several of the players who strongly suspect that Ramius is a treacherous spy. The irony is poigniant. The last contact with Chaos was talking to Mandor, and that was only because there was an insistance that he 'be informed' that there were trump sketches that looked like his work.

Ah well, I guess we'll see how it plays out. Firing up the sorcery was really quite satisfying last session. Teleports, wall of force, cardiac arrest and 'fantasia for 6 acytelene torcches'. Lovely.
