February

Well, it's February.
We've all got though, what is the most miserable month in the Calendar.

My intent, starting the year, was to change the way things are. So I've been not drinking, and 'eating very carefully' in an attempt to lose some weight. As of this morning, I'm down by 7kg or so which is good. Still a way to go yet though, which is ... not so good.

Not drinking has been something of a challenge though. I had been making a concious effort to cut back, and that was working fine. Stopping entirely... well, both is and isn't as hard as I thought.

So t-total, huh? How long have you been doing that for? Is it just on the basis of health, or did you have other reasons?

Started just after new year. (was drinking after midnight, but haven't since :). Haven't had any since.

Basically health - I'm crap at new years resolutions, but wanted to see about losing some weight. So figured an 'if-then' clause of 'if I get below a target weight of 100kg' then I drink again, would either incentivise me to get a move on, or otherwise ... well, improve my general health level anyway.

But it seems I'm down 7kg out of the 134.5 I started the year on, which ... well, means I've got about 28 or so to go. Which isn't so good.

But I've managed a month so far, and will see how it pans out.

I seem to have been doing the opposite of late. A couple of pints of ale after work is not unusual.

I can see that stopping can be easy when it comes to not going into pubs and not buying beer when shopping. The difficulty comes when going to a pub for socialising and not being able to drink.

Does this mean that there will be a sober Thorn at Maelstrom this year?

Indeed.

Socialising and not drinking... well, I suppose I -knew- I connected the two, but ... it's harder than I expected.

Maelstrom may be the exception, but I _was_ hoping to have made my target weight by then. After all, it is the end of march and all.

But even if I keep up the current rate, I'm looking at another 4 months, which will probably mean I make an exception at Maelstrom :).

for socializing at pubs and not drinking, I find it helps to have an alternate drink available to order. So a Sprite with cranberry juice and a slice of lime is somewhat nicer than water but has far fewer calories than a beer. (or so I think...I never really checked).

Congrats on whittling away at your weight :)

Big congrats on the 7kg so far .. I've had enormous problems Increasing from my measly <60kg even 1 or 2 kgs has been a challenge. So really well done on your record so far - just keep going and I'm sure you'll make it to your target. And remember slow and steady is much better than 'crash and burn' .. you'll be able to maintain it much easier if you cut down gradually.
