Good start to the day

Well, I've just been involved in an email discussion.
I dislike getting nasty emails.
The one centres around something that I volunteered to do last year, but have since decided that I'm no longer prepared to deal with the 'hassle'.

I feel somewhat indignant that I get a somewhat snotty email about how I'm being stubbornly unhelpful.

Now, the way I see it is this: If I volunteer to do something, I will do the best I can to accomplish it.
If I stop doing something (which I volunteered for), I will give sufficient warning that I will, such that those who have come to depend upon it will have time to make other arrangements.

It's somewhat ironic that the primary reason why I stopped then finds the need to flame me over it.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do about a group activity where one member of the group seems to be very successful at antagonising a lot of the others.

Never mind, after a couple of cups of coffee, I will calm down again, and then will get on with the rest of my day.

You tell them to fuck off and never, ever come back. That's what you do.

Jack's right. We're all too polite (me included). I know it's difficult, but sometimes you just need to tell some people to Go Away. :-/

Yes.

This all sounds painfully familiar.

I'm with Mister Jack. Tell them to fuck off, and if they don't, kick 'em in the head till they stop twitching.

There is never any need for nasty emails and you don't deserve them tell them where to get of.

you could highlight the individual to HR for inappropropriate conduct at work.

Being insulting and unreasonable as well as attempting to bully will show up quite nicely for these sort of things :)

That would be the case if it were someone under the same employer :)

Kill him/her. Invite the remaining group members around for a barbeque and start a new group activity called "Eat the evidence".

Macabre, but makes your point... None of them will ever hassle again.

Ever.

Do I know what this is?

If so, I'm not sure who the person is, there are a few candidates...

Generally speaking I've found the 'this is going to help you persuade me how?' approach to be quite instructive to the person in question - if they try to cute/brat/snotty their way out, laugh at them.

If that doesn't work, point out the reason that you've dropped this activity is because people took your efforts for granted. If it persists afterwards tell them your interest in this conversation is ended.

If that fails, tell them to go forth and multiply - hopefully they will raise someone who can help them given sufficient time/inclination and patience on their progeny's behalf...

Only in the most extreme circumstances should you kill and/or eat the irritant in question. Not only do they risk saddling you with unacceptable social consequences, you also face the risk of indigestion.

If that doesn't work... you're pretty much screwed. ;-)

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say.. if this is the person I think it is then needless to say something similar happened to me fairly recently... All I can say is I was suckered into something I then reached the point of well "I don't have to do this so I'll think I'll stop now its making me ill". at which point I recived some very nasty emails. at which point I banned the said emailer from all my mail boxes. If said emailer can't be civil then I have nothing more to say to him and I don't care to read or hear what he has to say to me.

Now this could be the same person.. it may not.. either way.. I agree with the majority here..

fuck em.. why put your nose out if they're gonna be uncivil. I think the emails just go to prove why you said no in the first place. Locke off and ignore their existance.. its working for me..

Hmm

For a moment I thought you might be talking about me.

But then I haven't emailed either of you.

So I'm pretty certain that I'm not

More or less
