How did you choose your username?

I've seen a large number of different 'handles' on IRC, LJ, MSN etc. Some of which are fairly obvious in the source - a book, a name whatever. So I thought I'd put together a little poll:

Can you plagiarise your own character? Surely you asked yourself permission if you could use your name, first?

Should I have a footnote saying 'Xarrion's identity previously appeared in these stories and RPG's'?
